02 Aug Macon Connects Awarded by Center for Active Design

Macon Connects was recognized as an innovative community project that demonstrates excellence in active design through the Center for Active Design’s annual award competition. The project brought five miles of pop-up bike lanes to Macon, GA for one week in an effort to change how residents traveled around for the better. The bike lanes sparked 800% increase in cycling rates. Based on the success of the project and continued efforts of local leaders, Macon has begun implementing permanent bike infrastructure throughout the city.

Macon Connects was led by NewTown Macon in partnership with Macon-Bibb County, 8 80 Cities, and Better Block. The project was funded by the Knight Foundation.
