Project Objective
The 8 80 Streets Project aimed to accelerate action on reducing pedestrian fatalities. The project temporarily transformed three sites across Toronto to showcase how quickly we can introduce design elements to create safer, vibrant, human-centred streets.

The Sites
8 80 Streets Danforth
From August 23rd – 24th, 2019 we transformed one block of Danforth Avenue, a prominent commercial street, into a space that exemplified the City of Toronto’s aspiration to get traffic fatalities down to zero. The pop-up street makeover took place from Woodbine Ave to Woodmount Ave, and it is the first Vision Zero pop-up in Toronto, and in Canada.
8 80 Streets Pineway
Between September 29th to October 4th, 2019, we prototyped traffic calming measures on Pineway Boulevard, a residential street in Toronto. The featured street design element demonstrated simple strategies to reduce dangerous driving and support the City’s vision of having zero road fatalities.
8 80 Streets Mountview
From October 28th to 31st, we created Toronto’s first pop-up School Street. For four days, the pop-up created a temporary car-free environment on Mountview Ave during school drop-off and pick-up times in order to prioritize safe walking conditions for children at Keele Street Public School.
