31 Oct Changes at 8 80 Cities
The leaves outside are changing, and so is our leadership team at 8 80 Cities.
Emily Munroe has left 8 80 Cities and is moving on to new adventures with the Province of Ontario. Anyone who has worked with Emily knows the incredible creativity, passion, and collaborative spirit she brought to our team.
During seven years with 8 80 Cities, including two as executive director, Emily helped grow the organization and spark new partnerships through her endless commitment to the 8 80 Cities philosophy and her belief that city building must be inclusive, collaborative, and of course, fun. We will miss her as a colleague and accomplice in the creation of better cities. We wish Emily and her family all the very best.
Meanwhile, we are excited to announce that Amanda O’Rourke is our new executive director. Amanda has been with 8 80 Cities since the beginning in 2007, back when our team was much smaller and our name – Walk and Bike for Life – was much longer. She was a key architect of the 8 80 concept, and has held several positions within the organization. She has been a key driving force in the development and growth of 8 80 Cities and has worked on numerous projects related to parks, public spaces, and sustainable transportation in North America, Europe, Mexico, and Australia.
Amanda holds a Master’s of Science in Planning from the University of Toronto, and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Biology from Queen’s University. She is also currently Co-Chair of the Children, Play, and Nature Committee for World Urban Parks. Amanda can be reached at arourke@880cities.org
