New fountain at Berczy Park, Toronto

#TBT: All Doggies Go to Berczy Park

Did you know that 8 80 Cities played an important role in the community engagement process for the revitalization of Berczy Park? Berczy was nominated by the local BIA as an underperforming public space for our Make a Place for People project funded by the Ontario government. Using our Unconventional Engagement method. 8 80 Cities is proud to have been part of such a great team, which included the late Councilor Pam McConnell, Gehl Architects, the St. Lawrence Market BIA, and local community champions. The community needed an improved park that would bring people from all walks of life together, local residents, the business community, dog owners, parents and children.

The Make a Place for People report for Berczy Park was the first step towards reimagining Berczy Park. This catalyzed an $8 million park revitalization project and a bold new park design by Claude Cormier et Associates. Reconstruction of the park began in September 2015 and it was reopened this past summer, displaying an amazing fountain including sculptures of different dogs, making the park fun and welcoming.
